Message from the Vice-President, Research and Innovation

Steven N. Liss, Vice-President, Research and Innovation, stands in downtown Toronto.

With a focus on strategic partnerships, inclusivity and innovation, Toronto Metropolitan University (TMU) continues to be a hub for world-leading, collaborative research that positively impacts our future and meets community needs. I am delighted to share our 2021–22 annual report highlighting TMU’s ongoing excellence in scholarly, research and creative (SRC) activity.

I am particularly proud of TMU’s outstanding accomplishments in attracting and sustaining impactful alliances with industry and not-for-profit partners. Among comprehensive universities, TMU ranked second in corporate research income growth in this year’s Research Infosource list, while in the not-for-profit sector, the university ranked third for research income growth.

These achievements provide our faculty and student researchers invaluable opportunities to collaborate with diverse community, industry and government partners to find cutting-edge solutions to real-world challenges. This work addresses significant health, cultural, scientific, technological and socio-economic issues to improve Canadians’ quality of life and drive economic growth.

Throughout this annual report, I invite you to learn about some of the initiatives undertaken by our researchers and the awards bestowed upon them as they work to benefit local and global communities. The Office of the Vice-President, Research and Innovation will continue to scale our SRC activities to support TMU’s trajectory of excellence.
