Intramural Sports & Social Leagues

Women's intramural volleyball participants pose in one of the RAC gyms.

Toronto Metropolitan Intramural Sports and Social Leagues is a community where everyone is welcome to participate, meet new friends, and have fun.

Toronto Met Intramurals builds friendships, promotes active wellness, and celebrates diversity through fun play and competition.  We embrace and champion the whole person in every participant.

Whether you are new to Toronto Metropolitan, to Intramural Sports and Social Leagues, or are a veteran player looking forward to another season, we are excited that you have found us online, and encourage you to take a look at what we have to offer this year.

Being physically active and having social connections on campus has been proven to positively impact academic performance.  Moving your body and staying connected with peers is not just “taking a break” from studying: it is an integral part of being at the top of your academic game.  Playing Intramural sports with us is a great way to have fun and connect with other students, and to reap the academic benefits of doing so.

Our team of staff have been hard at work on a revitalization plan for Intramurals at TMU, figuring out how to engage a wider cross section of students and to create an environment and offerings where all Toronto Metropolitan students can find activities and communities that they find compelling and enjoyable.

For details on our new virtual offerings, and instructions on how you can get involved, please navigate to our IMLeagues page (external link) .

We look forward to helping you stay active and connected, and hope to be able to meet you in person soon.

  • Diversity & Inclusiveness: Our focus is to serve a wide range of student and member interests. We continuously work to represent marginalized groups by offering events and leagues that promote a positive and welcoming environment.
  • Wellness Through Movement: We offer an outlet where participants are able to practice physical and mental wellness through engaging in sport.
  • Fun & Play: Building friendships and creating lasting memories all while participating in sports leagues is important to us. We strive for a safe and fun atmosphere for all to experience.
  • Education & Leadership: We ensure that we are contributing to student development through meaningful work experiences. Students have the opportunity to progress within their roles, through unique leadership opportunities they are able to apply, strengthen and learn new skills.
  • Spirit of Innovation: We constantly seek to evolve the program for participants by encouraging feedback, implementing new leagues and running events.

Leagues

Open

Leagues are open to Men, Women, Two-Spirit, Transgender, and Gender non-conforming participants. There are no gender-based rules to follow in these leagues.  Open leagues aim to foster greater gender diversity in active well-being.

Mixed

Our mixed sports leagues have gender requirements and guidelines in place to participate in the league.  This category welcomes all individuals to participate regardless of gender, however, teams must adhere to the general rules in place.

Womens

Leagues that are open to those who identify as Women.

Divisions

Recreation

This division is for participants whose primary interest is having fun, socializing and making new friends. All levels of ability are welcome and we especially welcome newcomers to their sport of choice.

Competitive

This division is for participants who are interested in playing competitively. All levels of ability are welcome, although it is recommended that players have some experience in their sport of choice.

Teams and Free Agents do not have to pay a bond or fee to participate in the program. Instead, we have implemented the  (google doc) Fair Play System (external link)  to ensure that we continue to provide a safe and fun environment for all participants, staff and spectators.
