Statement of Interest

The Psychology graduate program Statement of Interest Form must be completed and submitted as part of a complete application.  Please see the main How to Apply webpage for information about other application materials that are required.

• The Statement of Interest should be approximately 500 to 1000 words in length.
• The Statement of Interest should describe your reasons for pursuing graduate study in the Psychology program, your research interests, how your previous studies and experience have prepared you for the program, your career objectives and how the graduate degree will advance them.
• You should also mention up to four or five possible supervisors with whom you might be interested in working. To find out which of our graduate faculty will be accepting students, and their research interests, please see our list of  (PDF file)  (PDF file) graduate faculty supervisors.
  
• If there are aspects of your application that you want to explain (e.g., lower grades during a particular term), this can be done in the Statement of Interest as well.
• The Statement of Interest is used by the Admissions Committee to determine that the applicant has been able to identify an area of research relevant to the program, and whether an appropriate match can be made to a faculty advisor/supervisor. It is possible that a highly qualified applicant will not be admitted if there are no possible thesis/project faculty advisors available to work in the areas of interest identified in the application. Therefore, applicants should make themselves familiar with the research within the program when considering which area of interest to pursue as a graduate student.
