Biography
Dr. Hudson Moura is Assistant Professor in the Department of Politics and Public Administration at Ryerson University. His passion for cinema has led him to a variety of different fields and perspectives including art, philosophy, and media and literary studies. In addition to a PhD in Film Studies and Comparative Literature from the Université de Montréal, he holds an M.A. in Semiotics from PUC-São Paulo, and a B.A. in Journalism from UFES, Brazil. As a postdoctoral fellow in cultural studies and cinema at Simon Fraser University, Vancouver, he pursued teaching and academic research investigating interculturality and emergent cinematic forms.
Before joining Ryerson, Hudson taught at several universities including the University of British Columbia, Simon Fraser University, and Université de Montréal in Canada; Universidade Federal de São Carlos in Brazil; and Universidade do Algarve in Portugal.
Dr. Moura has published steadily in French, Brazilian, American, Portuguese, and Canadian academic refereed journals and books. He is an associate member of CRI-Center for Research on Intermediality (external link, opens in new window) at the Université de Montréal, and CEO-Centro de Estudos da Oralidade (external link, opens in new window) at PUC-SP. He is the guest editor of a special issue of the Université de Montréal’s journal Cinémas focusing on contemporary Brazilian cinema.
Dr. Moura’s audiovisual productions have profiled filmmakers and artists such as Orides Fontella and Amylton de Almeida. In addition, he serves as a film programmer, hands-on workshop facilitator, and producer in two film festivals in Toronto, BRAFFTV and Diaspora.
