Priscilla N. Boakye
Dr. Priscilla Boakye recognizes the different ways historical, systemic, and structural conditions shape the dynamics of teaching and learning spaces and the impact that has on a learner's experience. She actively works with students by empowering them to challenge dominant worldviews shaping nursing education, healthcare practice, and the world around them; and be agents of social change and transformation. In addition to her teaching role, she supervises and mentors’ undergraduate students, masters and doctoral students in building their capacity as future scholars.
Dr. Boakye’s research is guided by principles of health equity, intersectionality, anti-Black racism, social and reproductive justice. She is committed to working with Black communities to co-create Afrocentric, equity driven, and culturally responsive programs to promote health and wellbeing, strengthen protective factors, and enhance critical resilience of Black families.
Her areas of research include maternal mental health, maternal health, anti-Black racism, women’s health, transition to motherhood, infertility, pregnancy loss and menopause. She is currently leading three research programs on promoting maternal mental health and wellbeing of Black women and mothers with support from CIHR and SSHRC.
