With November here at TMU, we’re eager to share a variety of engaging activities this month. Join us in celebrating Indigenous Education and Treaties Recognition Week, swing by our TMU Bold Events, attend the Viola Desmond awards, enjoy our Pop-Up Free Store and much more. November 1 
2024 Singwell Symposium

SingWell's Third Annual Research Research Symposium will take place on November 1. The hybrid symposium is open to the public, and features a keynote presentation by Dr. Isabelle Peretz. Join us as we celebrate research strides and hear from colleagues leading new discoveries on how group singing can promote wellbeing.

Black Scholars in Dialogue - Promoting Student Success

The "Black Scholars In Dialogue Series" provides a space for both established and emerging Black scholars to amplify their scholarship through interdisciplinary discussions that offer perspectives on pressing issues facing the Black community. Rooted in the rich traditions of Black intellectualism, this series serves as an opportunity for collaboration, exploration and community empowerment.

November 3 
Reconciliation in Business Conference 2024

The Treaty Relations in Business Education (TRIBE) student group at TRSM is hosting the third annual Reconciliation in Business Conference with the theme of “Indigenous Worldviews: Education to Action.” The conference will consist of discussions designed to foster inclusion and appreciation of Indigenous perspectives. The event will feature an Indigenous marketplace, a feast, research presentations and an Indigenous business case competition.

Opening of Indigenous Education and Treaties Recognition Week with Pamela Palmater

Join us on Monday, November 4 for the opening of Indigenous Education and Treaties Recognition Week. Following opening remarks from TMU leaders, Pamela Palmater, internationally renowned speaker, activist, author, podcaster, Mi’kmaw lawyer and professor and chair in Indigenous Governance at TMU, will deliver a keynote speech about honouring the original spirit and intent of treaties.

Viola Desmond Awards Ceremony

All TMU students, faculty, staff and community members are invited to the 16th annual Viola Desmond Awards and Bursary Ceremony, hosted by the Office of the Vice-President, Equity and Community Inclusion (OVPECI). Join us on November 6 to celebrate the remarkable contributions of Black women and gender-diverse individuals, honouring their impact on our community and the legacy of Viola Desmond in the fight for human rights for Black Canadians.

Grad Art Hive

GRAD Art Hive is designed to provide a refreshing break from your studies and offer a haven for creativity and connection. Bi-monthly on Wednesdays, starting September 25, from 1-4 p.m. in DCC, 7th floor, we offer a welcoming and inclusive space where you can unwind, explore your artistic side, and connect with your peers. Pink Libraries Tour: Day 2

A guided tour of the Libraries with a focus on 2SLGBTQ+ materials and activities. Learn about search techniques using our Queer and Trans Research Guides, explore the Collaboratory and Immersion Studio, visit the Law Library and tour 2SLGBTQ+ collections unique to TMU at the Archives and Special Collections.

November 7 
Disability Accommodation in the Workplace

Please join us for the hybrid public lecture “Disability Accommodation in the Workplace” by Ravi Malhorta and Emily Ruppel, Phd Candidate hosted by Karen Soldatic, Canada Excellence Research Chair (CERC) in Health Equity and Community Wellbeing. This event is free and open to the public

Language Conversation Tables & Cafés  

Are you looking for an opportunity to practice your French, Spanish or Mandarin Chinese while improving your listening and speaking abilities? Do you have a propensity for Arabic art, culture and film?  If so, join us at these informal conversation series and cultural Cafe’s. All levels are welcome, open to all at TMU!

November 11 
Remembrance Day 

Join us from 10:45 a.m. to 11:15 a.m. at Kerr Hall Quad (northeast corner, by the flagpole) for TMU’s Remembrance Day ceremony. This annual event honours lives lost in war and provides a respectful space for those affected by global conflict. We look forward to seeing you there as we gather to remember and reflect.

November 20 
TMU Bold Hockey - Decade Night

The name of the game is 'nostalgia'! A night filled with all the best tunes from throughout the decades will create a fun atmosphere in the arena as the Bold men's hockey team takes on Western. Puck drop is set for 6:15 p.m. Visit the site to see all November TMU Bold events (external link) .

November 20
Trans Day of Remembrance

As part of Fall Pride at TMU, all community members are welcome to join the Positive Space Faculty and Staff Network and the Trans Collective (external link)  as we observe the Trans Day of Remembrance (TDOR). Started in 1999 by transgender advocate Gwendolyn Ann Smith, TDOR is an annual observance on November 20th that honours the memory of trans people whose lives were lost in acts of anti-trans violence.

November 19- 23
RISE: Fall Dances 2024

From November 19-23, visit RISE: Fall Dances 2024, for a selection of new dance works by esteemed choreographers, featuring 2nd, 3rd and 4th year Performance Dance students. Registration is required.

Learn to Cook

Are you interested in strengthening your food literacy, building your food skills and becoming more confident in the kitchen? Then this Learn to Cook workshop is the perfect way to develop all those skills! Join TMU Recreation, Student Health & Integrated Wellness, MHSc students & the School of Nutrition as we teach you how to cook quick and easy recipes! Registration opens Nov. 11

Pop-up Free Store

Do you like free stuff and believe in giving gently-used items a second chance? The Sustainability Office’s pop-up Free Store is a one-stop shop for TMU students to pick-up secondhand treasures, all for free! Choose from a variety of items like office supplies, electronics, home decor, kitchen supplies and books to get you started for the school year ahead!

Free Soup Day

Join us at the Hub Café for Free Soup Day! TMU Eats is committed to helping address student food insecurity on campus and is pleased to partner with the Office of the President on this initiative.
