Members of Student Government Selection Process Committee announced

I am writing to share an update on the process to determine the structure of an independent, representative government for full-time undergraduate and all graduate students at Ryerson University.

Student Government Selection Process Committee

The university is pleased to announce the members of the Student Government Selection Process Committee. This committee will help facilitate the process for Ryerson students to determine a student government structure that best represents their interests and to ensure student voices are heard throughout this process.

The committee members represent a diversity of perspectives from across the Ryerson campus community and have all demonstrated a strong commitment to student leadership. They have significant experience as student leaders, engaged community members, or as elected student representatives. 

The committee will consist of current Ryerson students, Daniel Lis, Julia Spagnuolo, Katey Park, and Zainab Bokhari, and recent Ryerson graduate, Michelle Park. The committee will be supported by Lianne Newman, manager, Student Engagement and Development, Faculty of Communication and Design, who has been seconded to serve as the Process Manager in a non-voting role.

The university is delighted that all six have begun the work for this important initiative.

The committee will assist the Chief Process Officer (CPO) in establishing and administering the process and rules of the vote, determining the eligibility of all groups that present themselves as candidates, explaining the voting procedure, and providing the resources required to conduct the election. The committee and CPO will have complete independence in establishing and administering the rules of the election process and will be responsible for ensuring that candidate groups post their campaign expenses publically.

The university will announce the name of the CPO shortly.

Submitting a nomination for a proposed structure of student government

For details of the nomination criteria please refer to the Student Government tab on the Student Affairs website. The committee will communicate directly with students to share rules, eligibility, and key dates of the process. Contact details for the committee will be shared with students shortly.

This is an important opportunity for Ryerson students to have their voices heard and to shape the future of student government on campus.
