Cory Searcy named interim vice-provost and dean of the Yeates School of Graduate Studies

I am pleased to announce Cory Searcy as interim vice-provost and dean of the Yeates School of Graduate Studies (YSGS) effective April 19, 2019. Cory will step in as Jennifer Mactavish nears the completion of her second term, and will serve in this role during the search process for a permanent appointment.

In his previous position as associate dean, Programs, YSGS, Cory played a critical role in advancing the school’s priorities of building a community and culture of inquiry, elevating excellence in graduate education, attracting and retaining outstanding graduate student talent, and delivering leading academic and administrative supports and services. Among his responsibilities, he oversaw the graduate component of the institutional quality assurance process (IQAP) mandated by the Quality Council, which included supporting graduate programs through the Periodic Program Review Process (Policy 126), new program development (Policy 112) and curriculum modifications (Policy 127).

Cory is also a professor of Industrial Engineering and former graduate program director for the interdisciplinary Environmental Applied Science and Management program. A highly engaged professional, he has chaired and participated in numerous committees at Ryerson, and currently serves as a section editor for the Journal of Business Ethics.

Cory’s research interests include corporate sustainability indicators, sustainability reporting and sustainable supply chain management, and he has been published in several leading academic journals, including the Journal of Cleaner Production, the Journal of Business Ethics, and the International Journal of Production Economics. He holds a bachelor of science and a master’s of science from the University of Manitoba, as well as a PhD from the University of Alberta.

I would like to thank Cory for his continued dedication to YSGS and his enthusiasm for driving the school’s priorities forward.

At this time, I would also like to thank Jennifer for her years of commitment to the strategic direction of YSGS. With the support of her team, she provided the leadership that fostered a student-centric graduate-school culture that promotes success, experiential learning and opportunities for transformational growth.

Jennifer was particularly instrumental in advocating and expanding the school’s interdisciplinary programs, Indigenizing graduate education, and securing space for graduate students in the Daphne Cockwell Health Sciences Complex. Her commitment to student engagement has transformed Ryerson’s graduate studies community, and has enriched campus life for all YSGS students.
