Marta's Ted Rogers MBA experience and advice on leadership

In my career, I live by two key principles: 1) if you don’t ask, you don’t get, and 2) don’t ask for permission, ask for forgiveness. My time in sales taught me these lessons—that most deals fall through because the consultant doesn’t ask, “are you going to buy this?” Now, if I want something, I ask for it, or I simply go ahead and do it. This has steered me towards leadership positions.

Pursuing my MBA in a diverse city like Toronto has made me a more mindful and culturally aware consultant. In Toronto, you can sense the energy of opportunity buzzing in the air, as people from all backgrounds come together with big ideas. It’s an exciting place to be, where you truly feel like you’re part of something larger than yourself.

I particularly enjoyed the more specialized courses, such as Investment and Portfolio Planning, Leading for Performance and Wellbeing, and Dynamic Decision-Making and Problem-Solving. The instructors, case studies, and strategic work were exceptional, helping me refine my skills and sharpen my ability to think critically and strategically about the future.

My MBA experience taught me that no matter how impressive someone may seem, they too face challenges, just as we all do. People are simply making the best decisions they can with the information available to them at the time. Ultimately, no one is above or below anyone else—we’re all navigating this together.
