Format

Required content

Poster must contain the following key information:

1. Title of the project

2. Names of the authors

3. Motivation: Brief outline of the motivation for your project

4. Your approach: Detail your approaches using text, figures, tables, charts

5. Conclusion: Highlight your contributions and findings of the research

Images

  • If you are including pictures, try and use ones with as high a resolution as possible. Otherwise, they will look very pixelated when blown-up to poster size.
  • After adding images to your poster, check the resolution quality by viewing a PDF-version on a widescreen monitor (the bigger the better) using Adobe Reader. Go to "File / Properties" and check that your poster is 24" x 36". Afterwards, zoom to 100% and scroll through your poster to check the image quality.

Creating a video is optional and not mandatory.  In addition to the mandatory poster, you are invited to create a single video (1-2 minutes long) focusing on the core aspects of your project and its relevance to potential employers. Employers will have the opportunity to review the videos to familiarize themselves with your project before the event on April 26th.

Your video should highlight:

  • Project title and a brief introduction of you or your team
  • The problem the project addresses and the solution it offers
  • Key features and functionalities of the project
  • Skills and knowledge gained during the project

Free and user-friendly video editing software:

Students will have the opportunity to meet with industry representatives from 1:00 to 3:00pm in our industry partner exhibition area.

Here are a few tips to make a memorable impression:

  • Prepare an “elevator pitch” about your Capstone project and/or areas of interest. An elevator pitch is a 30-second summary that captures 1-2 key highlights.
  • Ask the industry representative about their priorities and organization. What are their areas of focus as an organization? What are they seeing as needs for their engineering workforce?
  • Ask to connect via email or LinkedIn. You can provide them a business card and/or bring a notebook to take down their information. Make sure to send them a follow-up message after the event to continue the conversation and thank them for their time.
  • Note: If you want to connect on LinkedIn, make sure your profile is up to date with the latest information about you. Consider adding a post about your Capstone project!
