Walking My Path: The Lived Experiences of Indigenous Gender and/or Sexuality Diverse Peoples in New South Wales

Background

This project explores the experiences of Indigenous gender and/or sexuality diverse peoples in New South Wales (NSW) to establish and address their social, cultural, and economic needs and aspirations. Conceptualisations of gender and/or sexuality have been framed within non-Indigenous values and discourses that are based on binary, heteronormative, heteropatriarchal, and cisnormative values and belief systems. Understanding Indigenous gender/sexuality diverse peoples’ unique experiences will illuminate their social, cultural, and economic needs and aspirations and, consequently, has the potential to transform their lives, as well as the government, corporate, and community organisations that provide services, representation, and advocacy for them.
