Keeping the elderly connected to family, friends and healthcare providers can be a crucial aspect in improving one’s independence and quality of life. That is exactly what Ayda Naserialiabadi and Younes Sadat-Nejad hoped to achieve when creating their smart home technology solution, Emerlet by Veeber Tech.

Naserialiabadi and Sadat-Bejad recognize the importance of the elderly maintaining an independent lifestyle.

“From both a healthcare cost and personal wellness perspective, it is better for seniors to stay at home for as long as possible,” Naserialiabadi says. “Living safely and independently while staying connected to others improves their comfort and quality of life. In providing real-time alerts, Emerlet also eases the worry of those who help care for them.”

Emerlet by Veeber Tech is a monitoring and alerting system that supports independent living for elderly people by keeping them connected to their children, caregiver or healthcare provider around the clock.

Essentially, the user– generally a family member or caregiver– will be notified of the condition of the senior’s home. So if the stove is left on or the doorbell rings, the Emerlet user will be notified through their smartphone or smartwatch. This allows the caregiver to passively monitor the senior’s environment throughout the day, without impeding on the senior’s independence.

As Stage Three Esch Award winners, Naserialiabadi and Sadat-Bejad are also first phase of the Venture Zone Industry Challenge to improve community health and wellness.

“The Stage Three Esch Award will help us to further develop and test the beta version of our product, as well as its branding and packaging,” says Naserialiabadi. “Most important, it moves us closer to providing a safer and better life for vulnerable members of our society.”
