Global Performance History I
This introductory course surveys the development of performance from the prehistoric era through to early modern, neoclassical and romantic periods. Histories of theatre, actors and companies are explored in relation to moving histories, including ritual, court and processional dances (including ballet), and the early American buck and wing tradition. Audiences, stages, genres, culture, theory and representative texts that emphasize the origins and evolution of multiple performance traditions across time, place and space are explored.
