Health and Imprisonment
This course introduces students to the major health care issues and challenges experienced in Canada’s prisons and jails. We will discuss the relationship between prison health and public health and the administrative and legal framework guiding the provision of health care in Canadian sites of incarceration before examining specific health care issues. Throughout, we will consider how unmet health care needs both predispose people to criminal legal involvement and are often exacerbated by imprisonment.
