CrimJust Voluntary Sector
This course examines voluntary sector organizations that intersect
with the criminal justice system. In the context of welfare state retrenchment and
neoliberal approaches, these organizations play a central role in shaping penal policy
and practice. We will explore the implications of their work for criminalized individuals,
the volunteers and practitioners involved, and broader understandings of punishment
and inequality.
