Criminalizing Global Migration
This course examines the criminalization of migration and resistance on a global scale in historical and contemporary contexts, including through regional and thematic case studies. It links the contemporary criminalization of migration to colonial legacies. Students will critically examine and evaluate the impacts of anti-migrant policies, policing approaches and discourses, particularly on marginalized and racialized communities. The role of civil society, migrant-led social movements and individual migrants’ agency will also be foregrounded and considered.
