Media and Modern Fandom
This course will explore the ideological terrain of media fandoms for such content as movies, television, pop music, video games, pro sports, and social streaming platforms. The importance of blockbusters, viral hits, celebrities, stars, and influencers will be studied in the context of critical theories of modernity. Global marketing, complex production strategies, and internationally accessible pop culture establish a collective experience of consumption as normative.
