SOC 320
Black Popular Culture
Blackness marks all of our screens, and Black popular culture is foundational to all popular culture. This course takes Black popular culture as its object of inquiry and examines the reality that Blackness remains a desired disruption but Black people remain an absented presence. What might it mean to study culture produced from within that wake? How might this study continue to expand our understandings of art, culture, form, genre, and aesthetics?
