Continental Philosophy of Religion

This course explores one of the most intriguing developments in recent continental philosophy: a renewed interest in religion and a growing recognition that religion plays a critical role in shaping our understanding of subjectivity and thinking about politics, culture, and philosophy itself. Themes such as political theology, the figure of the Other, the relationship between immanence and transcendence, religious phenomena, and the complex relationship between secularism and religion will be explored. Authors including Heidegger, Schmitt, Weil, Buber, Rosenzweig, Levinas, Derrida, Henry, Irigaray, Marion, Taylor, and Kristeva will be closely examined.
