Musicology
This course allows students to develop a working musical vocabulary and aural skills, including instrument identification, and an understanding of the elements of music. Emphasis is placed on surveying Opera from the Baroque to Postmodern periods of Western European Art music. Through analysis of a number of contemporary traditional as well as avant-garde approaches to Opera, students will learn how to examine and discuss music in relation to the visual components of the stage.
