This course introduces students to LGBTQ2S+ histories in the US and Canada, from the late 19th century to the present. The course situates historically the fluidity of sexual and gender identities referred to by the acronym LGBTQ2S+, addressing the development of organizations, political confrontations, queer cultures of sex, and the rise and fall of queer spaces. This course understands queer and trans identities as informed by racialization, disability, colonialism, class, gender, religion, and legal status.
