Canadian Cultural Industries
This course introduces students to the history of Canadian culture and cultural industries. It considers a number of issues including: the rise of mass culture; the impact of American culture on Canada; the creation of cultural institutions like the CBC, the NFB, and the Canada Council; the evolution of government cultural policy; the interaction between popular and "high" culture; and the development of popular magazines, radio, film, and television.
