Hydrology and Water Resources
Introduction to hydrologic principles. Components of the hydrologic cycle: Precipitation, interception, abstraction, infiltration, evapotranspiration, overland runoff, streamflow. Hydrological data measurement and monitoring. Rainfall-runoff relationships and analyses: unit hydrograph theory, synthetic hydrographs, flow routing. Flow through porous media: saturated and unsaturated groundwater flow, well hydraulics and pumping tests. Urban hydrology: The Rational Method, sewer system hydraulics, detention basin design. Use of computer simulation models for urban and rural watersheds.
