Business Management - Law and Business Major

† For most Business Management Students, CMN 279 and LAW 122 are timetabled in either in the 3rd or 4th semester. Law and Business students take LAW 122† in 3rd semester or request permission to enrol in the Major on an individual basis if they take it in 4th semester.

The Law and Business Department offers an optional co-operative program which provides graduates with 16 months of work experience integrated into their academic program.

Students wishing to be considered for this program must apply for admission into the co-op option after the fourth semester of the program. Admission into the co-op program us based on the following four items:

1. Recommended CGPA of 3.00 (or higher). Subject to competition, grades above the minimum may be required.
   
2. Evidence of superior oral and written communications skills
   
3. Interview
   
4. Resume/CV

Students commence work terms upon completion of the fifth semester of the Business Management program and the co-op option extends the Law and Business Major to five years from four. The Law and Business Department cannot guarantee work term jobs, but the Business Career Hub (opens in new window)  and the Department will prospect for employers and make every effort to locate suitable positions, as well as be available to advise students on their search for program-related jobs.

The co-op program enables students to earn prevailing wages for the level of responsibility and contribution of the jobs they perform and thus finance at least part of their university education.

This co-op sequencing is for students admitted Fall 2018 and before. Students admitted Fall 2019 and after please see revised co-op sequencing below.  

Revised co-op sequencing begins 2020-2021 for students admitted Fall 2019.  

Work terms are graded on a pass/fail basis. Each work term is assessed by the Co-op Faculty Advisor on the basis of the student's comprehensive written report and the employer's evaluation of the student's performance on the job.

NOTE: Students are expected to follow the sequence prescribed for their program. Deviation from the sequence requires the submission of a formal request to the Co-op Faculty Advisor and approval from the School. With permission from the School/Department, students may be allowed to graduate with the co-op endorsement with fewer than the prescribed work terms.

Direct Entry students will normally be admitted into 5th semester (3rd Year) of this program. Students should refer to their Offer of Admission for details.
