Today: System-wide test for RyersonSafe

November 27, 2019

Our department recently shared news of the launch of RyersonSafe, a new tool for mass notifications that will send alerts in urgent situations that pose an immediate safety or security risk to the community.

We will be testing the RyersonSafe system today between 1 p.m. to 3 p.m.

What to expect during the test

During the test, all current students, faculty and staff can expect to receive the test alert by email.

In addition to email, we will be sending the test alert to five additional communications channels:

The website banner and digital signage will receive subsequent test alerts.

Sign up to receive RyersonSafe alerts directly to your device

By downloading both the RyersonSafe mobile app and signing up to receive alerts via text message in advance of the test, you’ll be able to get a preview of how alerts will display prior to an actual urgent situation on campus.

Download the RyersonSafe mobile app for push notification alerts

The mobile app is free to download on an Android or iOS device that can connect to a wireless network.

Android devices

Download the RyersonSafe mobile app on Google Play (external link, opens in new window) .

iOS devices

Download the RyersonSafe mobile app on the App Store (external link, opens in new window) .

We recommend allowing push notifications so that alerts pop up on your device.

Subscribe to receive alerts via text message

To subscribe, text “Ryerson” to the number 723-389.

We recommend saving the number 723-389 to your contacts under RyersonSafe so that you recognize the alert.

Note: Text messages are sent via the RyersonSafe vendor, AppArmor. Standard message and data rates may apply.

Digital signage (TV screens on campus)

Screens that are connected to the campus signage tool and run Windows 10 will be taken over with test alerts between 1 p.m. and 3 p.m. You may want to keep this in mind for any meetings and events you have scheduled during the test period.

How the alert will display on screens:

If you have a screen that is not configured using the campus signage tool, it will not display urgent alerts. If you are interested in connecting to the campus signage system, please complete the  (google form) Digital signage on the Ryerson campus form (external link) . Computing and Communications Services will contact you directly to arrange an assessment.

Visit our website for a preview of how alerts will be presented on other channels
