Ryerson students: Tell us what you think about safety and security on campus
Students are invited to attend an upcoming consultation on April 16 to discuss safety and security solutions on campus.
Sign up to attend
This consultation will be open to all current Ryerson students*:
Date: April 16, 2019
Time: 6 p.m. to 8 p.m.
Location: JOR-1410 in Jorgenson Hall
In order to facilitate a rich discussion, the group size will be capped at 30 participants. Please use your Ryerson email address to complete the registration form to RSVP. Registration will allow us to update participants, send follow up emails as required as well as help to ensure that the voices in the room are representative of our campus.
*While all students are welcome, we ask that student journalists do not report on the content shared by fellow students in the sessions themselves. The privacy and confidentiality of our participants is a priority and student journalists are invited to contact the Community Safety and Security team directly.
Ryerson’s Community Safety and Security department will be conducting consultations throughout the spring of 2019, with two main objectives. First, a senior leader of the department will provide you with information about:
- the nature of the department’s operations
- the current state of safety and security on campus
- the challenges the department faces
- some options the department is considering to enhance the service-delivery model on campus
Afterwards, the DiversiPro consulting team will engage you in a discussion related to:
- what safety and security means to you
- what challenges you face on campus related to safety and security
- what you think of the service-delivery enhancement options presented to you
- what ideas you may have that could help enhance our ability to serve the campus better
In addition to this session with all students, we will be conducting several other consultations and meetings through spring of 2019 with specific student groups and representatives, faculty, part-time and sessional contract lecturers, staff and community partners.
As a result of the community consultations, the department will use the information gathered to:
- inform senior leaders’ decision-making
- prepare a proposal or plan to improve the service delivery model of the department moving forward
- generate new programs and initiatives
- plan for ways to develop long-term, ongoing relationships with community members in order to maintain accountability and transparency
