The uniquely designed facility has sections for melting of metals and alloys, lost foam and permanent mould casting, metallographic sample preparation, and advanced characterization. This includes melting and heat treatment furnaces, foam preparation and coating apparatus, a thermal data acquisition system, welding apparatus, an ultrasonic stirring device, a melt protective cover gassing system, metallographic preparation apparatus, optical microscopes with image analysis software, a planetary ball mill, an optical emission spectrometer, and a thermal constants analyzer. 

Furthermore, the CNPM has access to mechanical testing apparatus, a scanning electron microscope with an energy dispersive X-ray spectrometer and electron backscatter diffraction detector, a transmission electron microscope, an x-ray diffractometer, a differential scanning calorimeter, neutron diffraction apparatus, and several more characterization systems.
