Bernoulli's research focuses on studying lightweight aluminum alloys for automotive and aerospace applications. His current research involves the characterization and heat treatment of a novel aluminum alloy for automotive cylinder heads. Furthermore, the project uses unique methods for high temperature in-situ analysis of incipient melting and dissolution of phases during heat treatment. Incipient melting during heat treatment is known to be deleterious to the mechanical properties of an alloy. Hence, the resulting work aims to maximize solution heat treatment of aluminum alloys without causing incipient melting, thus ensuring a high quality product with improvement in mechanical properties.
