Anna Triandafyllidou appointed co-chair of Metropolis International
In July 2024, Metropolis International announced that Anna Triandafyllidou, the Canada Excellence Research Chair in Migration and Integration at Toronto Metropolitan University, has joined the board of the organization and will be the organization’s co-chair, along with Paul Spoonley (Professor Emeritus, Massey University, New Zealand).
Metropolis International is one of the world’s largest networks focused on matters relating to migration, settlement and diversity. The organization was formed in 1996 and is known for its activities in bringing together academic experts, policy practitioners and governments, and community groups and NGOs to identify, understand and respond to developments in migration, integration, inclusion and diversity.
In their announcement, Metropolis International wrote that the current co-chairs, Professor Jan Rath and Professor Emeritus Paul Spoonley, along with the International Steering Committee of Metropolis International, were “excited by this new appointment” and acknowledged the expertise and international standing that Anna brings to Metropolis International.
Jan Rath (Professor Emeritus, University of Amsterdam), who has been a Chair of Metropolis International for the last decade, will be stepping down from this position at the November 2024 conference in Kuala Lumpur when Anna will begin her role.
“I'm thrilled to be joining co-chair Paul Spoonley to take up the leadership of Metropolis International,” said Anna Triandafyllidou, the Canada Excellence Research Chair in Migration and Integration at TMU. “Migration challenges are interconnected across the globe. We need forums like Metropolis International to bring people together from academia, government, community groups and NGOs to uncover insights and find practical solutions. I'm grateful to have the opportunity to lead this international initiative, which complements our effort at TMU to bring the best minds together from around the world to advance our understanding of migration.”
