Charishma Ratnam
Charishma is a Human Geographer and Research Fellow at the Monash Migration and Inclusion Centre (MMIC) at the School of Social Sciences, Monash University. Her research spans a number of areas, primarily focusing on refugee and migrant experiences and resettlement, inclusion and home-making practices. Charishma is particularly interested in developing novel research approaches including visual, ethnographic and walking methods with participants to better understand their experiences of/in/with place(s). Charishma is involved in multiple research projects that involve partners across multiple disciplines and sectors. Projects include: Monash University's Network for Excellence on Regional Liveable Diversity; analysis of the public spaces used by the Sri Lankan diaspora in Sydney and Melbourne; funded projects by the Families, Fairness and Housing, and Justice and Community Safety departments of the Australian government. She has published her research widely in international journals and co-edited the first book on Sri Lankan Tamils in Australia (2020).
