Shreyashi Ganguly

Researcher
EducationPhD candidate, York University

Shreyashi Ganguly is a research assistant on the SSHRC IG project at CERC Migration, working under the supervision of Marshia Akbar. Shreyashi is a doctoral candidate in the graduate program in Sociology at York University, Toronto. Her research explores the idea of desi humour in stand-up comedy in Toronto as a distinct form of diasporic South Asian cultural-humorous expression. She is interested in understanding how participation in this form of humour leads to the consolidation as well as problematization of a collective South Asian identity among the diaspora and the significance this comic genre has on the broader politics of representation of a South Asian identity in the contemporary Canadian public sphere. Shreyashi is an active member of the Canadian Sociological Association and has started a specialized research cluster on South Asia at the Association that fosters intellectual exchange among scholars interested in the area.
