Toronto Metropolitan University Teaching Award Recipients
Recognizing teaching excellence at the university-level at Toronto Metropolitan University goes back over a decade. In the mid-nineties, a grassroots ad-hoc committee of interested faculty members formed under the name Group to Renew and Enhance Effective Teaching (GREET). One of the most important tasks of the GREET was organizing GREET Faculty Awards. Up to six faculty members, one for each of the six Toronto Metropolitan University faculties, were recognized each year. In total, between 1995 and 2005, 55 GREET Awards were given.
In 2003-2004, the former Learning and Teaching Office (LTO) underwent a review of its operations. The GREET Committee was disbanded, and the LTO assumed all its responsibilities, including the Faculty Teaching Awards. The awards process was revised with a view to increase visibility, breadth and status of the awards.
In 2007, further enhancements to the Faculty Teaching Award Program were introduced, with the first steps taken to create a hierarchy of awards, from the university-level Chancellor's, President's and Provost's Awards, to the Deans' Awards available in each faculty. In total, nineteen faculty teaching awards are available annually.
