Late in the Victorian period The Boy's Own and Girl's Own paper provided weekly information, advice and entertainment, including fiction, music, poetry, contests and non-fiction articles to young people. Yearly, the editions of these magazines were bound and distributed around the globe. Lavishly illustrations of typographic ornaments (now known as "drop caps”) signifying the beginning of major articles. This project seeks to identify and catalogue the ornaments, investigate their use, and ascertain how (and by whom) they were printed.
