Migrating your TMU Microsoft data, accounts and devices in mid-June (faculty and staff)

April 22, 2024

To: All faculty and staff

As part of the continued phased approach to implementing the Toronto Metropolitan University name in place of Ryerson University, we will be upgrading elements of the university’s IT infrastructure. This will include a migration to a new Microsoft cloud environment.

Please note that this is advance notice that in mid-June, Computing and Communications Services (CCS) will migrate your Microsoft data, accounts and devices to the new TMU Microsoft environment on your behalf. We hope to provide more information about timing via email in mid-May.

Will the changes affect you?

These changes will affect you if you:

  • currently use Microsoft products such as Office 365, OneDrive, SharePoint or Teams to store data; or
  • have a laptop set up and supported by CCS.

If you use a laptop supported by CCS, we will migrate the laptop to the new Microsoft cloud domain. Please note, if you use a desktop that is TMU-owned or if you use a laptop that is not supported by CCS, your workstation will be migrated during the second phase of the migration project.

What to expect during migration

To minimize disruption, the migration will be scheduled over a weekend in mid-June. During the process, please expect some of your data to be unavailable for a short period of time.

If your laptop is not turned on during the scheduled migration time, the migration will instead begin automatically the next time you start up your laptop.

What to do after migration concludes

There will be three tasks to complete once migration to the new TMU Microsoft environment concludes:

  1. Please double check your Microsoft OneDrive folders to ensure your data was successfully migrated.
  2. You will need to set up your Microsoft multi-factor authentication (MFA) once more as your login will change from your former @ryerson.ca email address to your current @torontomu.ca email address.
  3. Once MFA is set up, please attempt a login with your new @torontomu.ca username to ensure it is working.

Detailed guidance on how to complete all tasks will be shared closer to the migration date.
