Migrate your TMU Microsoft data and accounts over the spring and summer terms (students)
To: All students
As part of the continued phased approach to implementing the Toronto Metropolitan University name in place of the former Ryerson University name, segments of the university’s IT infrastructure will be updated by migrating data and accounts from your existing Microsoft cloud to a new Microsoft cloud environment.
This is advance notice that during the spring and summer terms, you will have a three-month timeframe to move data out of the existing Microsoft environment. As the new TMU Microsoft environment is not yet available, we encourage you to monitor your TMU inbox in mid-May for an email confirming its launch along with guidance on how to migrate your data.
Do these changes affect you?
These changes will affect you if you currently use Microsoft products such as Office 365, OneDrive, SharePoint or Teams to store data.
However, if you do not plan on keeping your Microsoft data or continuing to use Microsoft products for your coursework after August 2024, there will be no action required on your part.
What you’ll need to do
- If you wish to keep any data stored in your existing Microsoft OneDrive, SharePoint or Teams clouds, you will need to move it to the university’s new Microsoft cloud environment. All data from the current “Ryerson” Microsoft cloud environment will be deleted when the migration period ends, and you may lose access to important files and information if they have not been moved over.
As mentioned above, there will be a three-month timeframe for you to transfer data between the university’s existing and new TMU Microsoft environments when the latter becomes available. - Once the TMU migration is complete, you will need to set up your Microsoft multi-factor authentication (MFA) once more as your login will change from your former @ryerson.ca email address to your current @torontomu.ca email address.
Detailed guidance on how to complete both tasks and how to log in to the new environment will be shared via email in mid-May.
