SEM 301

Body, Mind, and Imagination

Are thinking, feeling, and moving interrelated? Are they the same across cultures? How have they evolved in humans compared to other animals? How is it possible to share thoughts, experiences, and imagined realities with others? These are questions for cognitive semiotics, a new discipline that brings together sciences, arts, and humanities to focus on embodied meaning. Students learn to approach problems like a cognitive semiotician by paying attention to patterns of meaning in everyday life.
