Critical Debates in Photography

This course focuses on recent debates in photography that critically examine specific bodies of photographs, discussing their production, circulation, and interpretation in society. Delving into contemporary theories of the image, including the social, political, and aesthetic impacts of new technologies, mass media, the archive, and conflict, this course critically assesses the multiple roles that photography plays across disparate and connected global cultures.
