Voices Without Borders: Global Chorus
Through readings in ethnomusicology and the experiential study of vocal music from
around the globe, this course explores the origins, nature, and functions of music. The
class will sing songs from a variety of vocal traditions, including British ballads, African
American and Japanese folk songs, yodeling, Sacred Harp choral singing, Georgian
Polyphony, Tuvan throat singing, and South African popular song in a participatory,
non-performative learning environment.
