  • FCS 100 - Working Toward a Just Society
    Course DescriptionCentering critical social justice perspectives, students will examine foundational concepts of equity and justice, and explore relevant theoretical frameworks to understand social processes and dynamics, including ableism, childism, colonialism, heteronormativity, patriarchy and white supremacy. This course will bring together students from across schools in the Faculty of Community Services, leading to the development of professional skills necessary for effective engagement with individuals, families and communities and providing opportunities for interprofessional learning.

  • FCS 101 - Social Justice and Mental Health
    Course DescriptionThis course uses a critical social justice lens to explore mental health, wellbeing, and the ways that experiences of identity, connection, and resurgence are shaped by social and climate contexts. It prepares students to work interprofessionally to support children, youth and adults in the community. The course engages a holistic understanding of mental health and wellbeing, addressing inequity, power, and privilege including the impacts of racism and gender-based inequity on the wellbeing of individuals and communities.

  • FCS 200 - Indigenous Relations in Practice
    Course DescriptionThis course will use an Indigenous relational lens to introduce students to foundational knowledge of Indigenous Peoples of Turtle Island as it relates to the helping, planning, and designing professions. The course will explore how treaty relations, legislation, identity, ongoing colonization, and anti-Indigenous racism impacts various professions.

  • FCS 400 - Indigenous Sovereignty in Practice
    Course DescriptionBuilding upon FCS 200, this course will further knowledge related to Indigenous nationhood, treaty relations, self-determination, sovereignty, and decolonization. This course will use an Indigenous resurgence lens to advance students' understanding of self and their professions related to the advancement and sovereignty of Indigenous Peoples.
