The Boom in Latin American Literature
This course is an introduction to Latin American literature and criticism from the 1960s and 1970s. We will study major authors from several Spanish-speaking countries to understand the "boom" not only in terms of the international success of Latin American authors but also as a cultural movement. Major authors to be studied include Julio Cortázar, Carlos Fuentes, Mario Vargas Llosa and Gabriel García Márquez. Students will examine literary works and articles from various sources.
