SOC 505
Sociology of Sport
This course uses a critical sociological lens to understand issues related to sports culture. It offers an overview of the interconnections among such concepts as sports culture, media, the economy and other social institutions, gender and sexuality, race and racism, and social justice, to name a few. Everyday assumptions about sports culture practices and realities are critically analyzed alongside examinations of how power is reinforced and resisted in sporting spaces.
