ENG 620
Literatures of the Caribbean
Edouard Glissant referred to the Caribbean Independence movement (1960s -1980s) as "notre passe de tempete -"our tempest years" Social and political storms have marked the history of the Caribbean since first encounters with Western colonizers. Other upheavals (race and injustice, forced and economic migrations) significantly shaped Caribbean societies and diasporas. In this course, students enhance critical thinking by considering how various art forms have responded to these upheavals, and to Caribbean resistance and reclamation.
