Optional Specializations

Ryerson University’s Optional Specializations provide an opportunity for students to enrich and augment their studies by focusing on a particular area of interest.

Specialization courses are completed in addition to the student’s regular program requirements, often in the Spring/Summer or via Distance Education. Optional Specializations are noted on the student’s Official Transcript upon graduation from their program.

Students must follow the Specialization’s published curriculum and also must maintain a Clear Academic Standing.

To pursue an Optional Specialization, students must officially register. Some of the courses have pre-requisites. Contact information, registration procedures, and deadlines are provided in the links below.

 

  • Optional Specialization in Engineering Innovation and Entrepreneurship
    Page Description:Only available to students in baccalaureate Engineering programs. Students who opt for this specialization will gain both a solid foundation of innovation and entrepreneurship theory as well as the immersive experience of advancing and shaping their own ideas into a business.
  • Optional Specialization in Management Sciences
    Page Description:Only available to students in the Faculty of Science and all baccalaureate Engineering programs (except Industrial Engineering). Students who opt for this specialization will gain a solid foundation in management science courses, specifically tailored to better prepare them for a career in engineering or applied science management or for graduate studies in management related specializations (e.g. MBA).
  • Optional Specialization in Zone Learning
    Page Description:Zone Learning is student driven and motivated. It is multi-disciplinary and collaborative, facilitating the cross-pollination of ideas from students across a variety of academic backgrounds.
