Dance Writing and Criticism

Critics have documented and influenced the development of dance. This course will examine and analyze the role of the critic since the beginning of the 20th century. Course material will include writing by significant critics from the United States (such as Anna Kisselgoff of the New York Times) and from Canada (such as Paula Citron of the Globe and Mail). Students will analyze the work of critics and learn how to write balanced reviews. The course will include guest lectures and attending performances.
