Sub-theme
ADTs in immigration governance
The sub-theme 'ADTs in immigration governance' considers the impact of advanced digital technologies on immigration governance in the past, present, and future, in Canada and in comparative perspective.

Objective
This project will centre around the Digital Platform Modernization and Transformation (DPMT) project currently unfolding since 2021 at IRCC. This multi-million initiative, which is planned to be completed in 2026, will culminate in the creation of a completely new digital platform for the immigration department, that will also be used by other agencies involved in implementation and by non-governmental organizations that are funded by the government (e.g. settlement agencies).

Research question(s)
- What is the process of development of DPMT?
- What are the real-time challenges encountered during the deployment of such a massive technological change in an immigration department?

Methodology
This project will rely on participant observation, interviews and content analysis as its main methods.

Status
The project is currently ongoing, with survey distribution underway, partnerships established, and interviews set to begin, while upcoming steps include data analysis, conference presentations, and expanding the study to other provinces.
Expected completion date: December 2026
