Dr. Desmond Chuang-Jacques is an Associate Professor at the Graduate Institute of Social Work, National Taiwan Normal University. He is a licensed social worker and works closely with several community-based organizations for improving community engagement and capacity building among racialized immigrants, refugees, and non-status people living with HIV/AIDS. His research projects are focused on the impact of complex adversities and cultural influences on sexual risk behaviours among men who have sex with men (MSM) in Taiwan, as well as Chinese immigrants who are MSM in Toronto, Canada. Additional research projects also looked into the intersectional impacts of gender, race and immigration status on the experiences of daily interactions.

His recent research projects were funded by the National Science and Technology Council in Taiwan (2020-2024), and mainly focuses on Health, Mental Health, Community Resilience, and Technology Use among Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, and Transgender communities. Additional recent projects have been collaborating with the Faculty of Social Work, University of Toronto, to explore the experiences of LGBT individuals’ inclusion and Hong Kong migrants’ lived experiences, in Taiwan.
