Sanibonani (Welcome)!
To our ancestors, to our elders, to our parents, to our sisters and brothers, to those yet unborn, and to all of creation, Sanibonani.
In 2023, Toronto Metropolitan University launched the Black Scholarship Institute (BSI), another significant step towards combating anti-Black racism and promoting Black flourishing among Black faculty, students, staff, and the wider Black communities.
The BSI is a university-wide initiative dedicated to cultivating the conditions needed for Black scholarship and the Afro-Diasporic worldview to flourish, be embraced, and be celebrated.
The BSI intends to, among other things, harness the power of interdisciplinary collaborations, community partnerships, and engagement with diverse stakeholders to foster innovative research, teaching, and advocacy to uplift Black communities.
Help Shape the Future of Black Scholarship
How well the institute responds to the needs and aspirations of Black scholars, students, staff, and key stakeholders depends on your input. To this end, we are holding a series of consultations in fall 2023 and winter 2024.
By participating in these consultations, you can have a say in defining the direction and distinguishing features of the institute. Join us at an in-person gathering, virtual discussion, or complete an online survey.
