In addition to being a great song about working hard, it’s also a call to stand up against  poor conditions and treatment in the workplace. She reminds us that sometimes work includes “all takin' and no givin'”, where we put in more to the work we are doing compared to what we receive. Despite being released in 1980, this song is still relatable to our experiences working today, where the cost of living has increased significantly while wages have stayed stagnant. We young workers will feel these pressures from the economy from time to time, so it’s important to feel a sense of solidarity with songs like 9 To 5 by Dolly Parton. Much can be learned from these messages, encouraging us to be more united as students seeking and/or participating in work at the moment.
