Join us for a conversation with Jagmeet Singh, who wants to lead Canada’s first New Democratic Party government. Bring your questions, via Zoom, for the politician who wields the balance of power in our minority Parliament. Hosted by Toronto Star columnist and Ryerson visiting practitioner Martin Regg Cohn. This event is sponsored by Ryerson's Faculty of Arts, registration is free.
About the Speakers:
Jagmeet Singh has been Leader of Canada’s NDP since 2017, the first racialized person to head a major federal party. A lawyer and human rights activist, he was first elected as an MPP from Brampton in 2011 and became Deputy Leader of the Ontario NDP in 2015. Born in Scarborough, he moved to St. John’s and later to Windsor. A graduate of Osgoode Hall law school, he practiced as a criminal defence lawyer. He is now the MP for Burnaby South in B.C.
Martin Regg Cohn is a political columnist for the Toronto Star and former foreign correspondent. A Visiting Practitioner in the Faculty of Arts and founder of the Ryerson Democracy Forum, he is also a Senior Fellow at the Munk School of Global Affairs and Public Policy.
