Bob Rae

Join us for a conversation with Canada’s Ambassador to the United Nations, Bob Rae. At the nexus of international diplomacy, he speaks for Canada — and speaks out on global issues: Middle East peace, human rights abuses, refugee strife, carbon crisis, conflict with China. Bring your questions for the former Ontario premier, federal party leader, and veteran troubleshooter. Hosted by Toronto Star columnist and Ryerson visiting practitioner Martin Regg Cohn, sponsored by the Faculty of Arts.

About the Speakers:

Bob Rae was named Canada’s ambassador to the United Nations in 2020 after a distinguished career in politics and policymaking, most recently as a special envoy on refugee and human rights issues. He was Ontario’s 21st Premier 1990-95, and served as interim leader of the federal Liberals 2011-13. He was elected 11 times to the House of Commons and the Ontario Legislature between 1978 and 2013. A lawyer and negotiator, he has headed several public inquiries and frequently acted as an advisor for Indigenous groups. A Rhodes Scholar, he taught at the Munk School of Global Affairs and Public Policy.

Martin Regg Cohn is a political columnist for the Toronto Star and former foreign correspondent. A Visiting Practitioner in the Faculty of Arts and founder of the Ryerson Democracy Forum, he is also a Senior Fellow at the Munk School of Global Affairs and Public Policy.
